October 10, 2009, my short story, An Old Wizard’s Folly, was awarded first place in the Stella Johnston Memorial contest at the Ozark Writers Conference held in Eureka springs. September 13, 2008, I was selected to present Dusty Richards with a plaque honoring him for starting the River Valley Writers Workshop of Fort Smith, Arkansas ten years ago. Dusty is, in my opinion, the world-renown western author of our time. October 11, 2008, Second place in the Matthew W. Martin Heroes Award for A Writers knight, Ozark Creative Writers Conference. October 1, 1993, Hilton Hotels added my name to the Hilton Hotels Frequent Travelers Hall of Fame in recognition of many journeys over a long period of time. The plaque was signed by Barron Hilton
Career awards with Emerson Electric Corporation: Salesman of the Year 1987 and President’s Award, 1994 for reaching 100% share of business with major customers--The Maytag Company, Norge, and Speed Queen companies. Lesser awards were: Pacesetter and Hustler awards for exceeding optimal sales growth.
As long as I’m continuing to blow smoke, I might just as well tell you that when I was a kid, I won 2nd place in the state of Illinois high school art contest. My prize was a summer scholarship to the Art Institute in Chicago--the one on Michigan Ave. I’m sure the administration of my school didn’t realize the art class utilized nude models, or they would’ve gone into convulsions and put the kibosh to the award. As for me, it proved to be quite an educational experience to say the least.
