Welcome to David's Site
Hello, and thanks to eveybody for being patient.
I've been feverishly working to complete my novel, The Blow Seeds. My objective is to have it published in 2010.
Set in a time just before the market crash of 1929 and continuing through the economic decline that led to the great depression, my 100,000 word thriller entitled, The Blow Seeds, takes its readers on a desperate race through America’s corrupt, yet colorful, past. In my novel, young Ash becomes obsessed with Lena—the spirited, self-contained wife of an abusive husband. Knowing that Ash has access to illegal funds stashed by his father—an incarcerated bootlegger—Lena plays along with Ash’s naïve attempts to rescue her. She entices him into her decadent world of speakeasies and pleasure palaces on their stormy quest to East St. Louis, Memphis, and Hot Springs to steal his father’s hidden cash. Filled with resolve and in hot pursuit of the couple is Whiz, Lena’s psychopathic husband—an underworld assassin. Near the end of the long chase, Lena comes to realize that she has fallen in love with Ash and finds a way to save his life. She has no choice but to leave with Whiz to evade his wrath, and lives in fear of his recourse when he finds out she’s pregnant with Ash’s baby.
The thing i hate to write about most is myself, but I realize a brief bio is necessary to explain why I have the right stuff to create such a story. My thirty-year career as a marketing and sales / engineering rep traveling the North American Continent has allowed me exposure to a myriad of individuals who fit the various roles of the characters in my story. Being a relentless free spirit myself, I have spent countless evenings with my customers at clubs bursting with entertaining activities ranging from the outrageous to the sublime. But of course, only for the purpose of dazzling those who made the procurement decisions at my larger accounts.
Having studied creative writing at the University of Arkansas, I like to further hone my skills by interfacing and networking with published authors and editors, and continue my membership with Dusty Richard’s and Velda Brotherton's North West Arkansas Writers Workshop. I've also attended numerous workshops and lectures at writers’ conferences offered by the Oklahoma Writers Federation, and Ozark Writers league.
I’m published in five historical anthologies, the latest one being entitled, Skipping Stones. The title of my story is, An Old Wizard’s Folly which won first place in a Eureka Springs grand conference award. I’ve also won in numerous contests with segments of my novel, short prose and poetry, and have several honorable mentions with ByLine Magazine.
Okay, folks, my neck is getting stiff from blowing smoke up an almost inaccesible orifice, so I'll get off the subject and give y'all a break. Have a great day, DW
